Abstract:

The idea of using steel plate shear wall (SPSW) has been noted for last three decades as a lateral load resisting system in design and retrofit of buildings. Knowing the short life of researches on this system and the necessity for replying to some design problems, in this research, it has been tried to determine the effect of ductility factor on force modification factor of SPSWs by using results of two cyclic tests on ductile SPSW's with three stories and other creditable experiments which have been done around the world. In the three-storey tests, two different connections (simple and fixed) and for panel’s plate, easy-going steel (EGS) are used. Assessment in this area shows that, the force modification factor of thin SPSWs with constant overstrenght factor based on Uang's methode is more than this factor of moment resisting frames.

Abstract:

The photo protein aequorin, isolated from the jellyfishAequoera victoria, is a calcium sensitive bioluminescent protein formed with the apoprotein apoaequorin and the prosthetic group coelenterazine that emits light upon calcium binding. The protein is believed to be a monomer containing four helix-loop-helix motifs (EF hand) of which three domains can bind calcium. On the other hand, excess calcium in brain is associated with many neurodegenerative diseases and conditions including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and stroke. Aequorin as a natural calcium binding protein taking up excess calcium in brain cells much like a sponge. The aim of this study is production of mutant aequorin for calcium sensitivity increase. The mutated aequorin (N28D, K30T), in EF hand I, were prepared using site directed mutagenesis and subcloned in the pET21 expression vector. According to design of His-taq, purified mutants aequorin prepared using nickel affinity chromatography. Finally calcium sensitivity compared between wild-type and mutant aequorin. Calcium sensitivity of mutated aequorin indicated aeq-K30T is more sensitive than wild type and aeq-N28D.

Abstract:

In this study, the electrocatalytic activity of the functionalized graphene oxide (GO) using L-lysine (GO-Lys) as well as L-lysine and copper (GO-Lys-Cu) was investigated for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions. Identification and characterization of GO, GO-Lys and GO-Lys-Cu were done using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and elemental mapping images. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) were used to investigate the electrochemical properties and electrocatalytic activities. The obtained results not only confirmed the decoration of the GO surface by Lys and Lys-Cu, but also revealed the reduction of graphene oxide (rGO) sheets. EIS results confirmed the lowest charge transfer resistance for Lys-rGO hybrid nanocomposite compared to other synthesized samples. The results obtained of LSV show that the functionalization of GO with Lys-Cu leads to efficient and stable electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with the lowest overpotential (375 and 732 mV, respectively) at the current density of 10 mA/cm2 (1 M KOH) and the smallest Tafel slope is 346 and 160 mV/dec, respectively, compared to GO, L-Lys, GO-Lys and Lys-Cu samples.

Abstract:

Introduction: Stainless steel crowns (SSCs) are widely used in restoring severely damaged primary molar teeth. Since these crowns do not adapt ideally to tooth substance, they may lead to some changes in surrounding gingiva. This clinical study was performed to evaluate the effect of stainless steel crowns placed on primary molars on gingival structures. Materials & Methods: In this retrospective study, 117 crowns in eighty four 4-11 year old children attended to pediatric department of Zahedan dental school were evaluated. Convenience sampling method was done. Some clinical factors such as gingival index, tooth type, state of being either right or left molar, or upper or lower molar, time elapsed after cementation, crown marginal adaptation, excessive cementation around the margin of crown and the oral hygiene level were examined. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used for data analysis through SPSS 15 software (P<0.05). Results: In our study only 11.1% of the evaluated crowns demonstrated clinically healthy gingiva, and there was a significant correlation between upper and lower molar, crown marginal adaptation and oral hygiene level with gingival index (P<0.05), while gingival index was not significantly affected by tooth type, tooth side, time elapsed after cementation and presence of excessive cement around the margin of crown and sex (P>0.05).Conclusion: Stainless steel crowns had no harmful effect on the gingiva provided performing standard preparation procedures especially in upper molars and stablishing proper marginal adaptation and good oral hygiene level.
